Kuala Lumpur, 1 July 2012 – Malaysian Electronic Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyClear) today launched an e-Debit Campaign at Selayang Mall as one of its initiatives to educate the public and enhance awareness of e-Debit as a payment method. The campaign is a collaborative effort between MyClear and Selayang Mall shopping centre and is aimed at encouraging the adoption of e-payments within the local community.
The e-Debit campaign will be held from 1st July until 31st December 2012 with many attractive gifts offered to e-Debit users. Selayang Mall is the first shopping mall in Malaysia with 90% of its retailers providing e-Debit facilities for its customers. e-Debit is a PIN-based payment facility offered by most local banks via their ATM card, allowing users to pay for purchases directly from their bank accounts, swiftly and securely at any authorised outlet.
To participate in this campaign, customers need only to use their ATM cards to purchase goods and services with a minimum of RM30 and above in a single receipt.
“Between January to May 2012, consumers have conducted more than 1.5 million e-Debit transactions, with a value of approx. RM755 million. This is a growth of 30% from the corresponding period in 2011. We are very encouraged by the adoption rate of e-Debit, the country’s domestic debit scheme and are continuing our efforts to enable more merchants with the said facility, said MyClear’s Managing Director, Mohd Suhail Amar Suresh, who officially launched the campaign today.
He further added that MyClear is aggressively expanding the availability of e-Debit terminals among merchants nationwide, in support of the objectives of the Financial Sector Blueprint by Bank Negara Malaysia in positioning e-payments as the preferred medium for economic transactions in Malaysia.
